“Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.”

I Chronicles 16:8

There’s a flip side to every coin and today I wanted to write about the other side of what I wrote yesterday. The positive side, hang in here with me.

What about those times when instead of having our hopes built up and our expectations soaring, we’re in a state of dread, concern or worry? What about when we receive the call from impatient bill collectors who want their money - and now? Or perhaps a negative doctors report which needs a follow-up visit? Or a trip to an ICU unit to visit someone who is fading away? Or a sudden pink slip and no job?

These kinds of things happen every day.

But, so do these:

  • a check in the mail to cover that debt the collector is hounding you about.

  • a doctors reply saying, “I don’t know what happened. There must have been a mistake. There is nothing further we need to do.”

  • a call from that ICU unit saying he/she is sitting up asking for something to eat, or they’ve been taken off the vent.

  • an email from a place of business you submitted a resume to last year informing you they want you to come for an interview.

Yes, these types of things happen every day too!

Maybe we don’t experience it personally, but somewhere in this world, it happens — because God is always moving and working. As we talked about at Easter time, He is very much alive today.

I’m talking about the things that happen which we weren’t expecting to, but we’re SO thankful they did. Maybe it’s a call from an estranged child, an apology letter from someone you never thought you’d hear from again, a few bags of groceries left on your doorstep, or an invitation to lunch when you’re feeling ever so lonely. The list is endless!

This is why our trust and hope must be in the only One who can make something out of nothing, know our needs before we ask, and walk us through any valley or trial we may encounter. Can’t nobody do us like Jesus!!

So, I just wanted to flip the coin today and remind us that there are some expectations which are praise worthy and testimony material. Keep leaning on Jesus and knowing that His promises are yea and amen. Keep looking for His next big surprise in your life, it’s always at an appointed time. Oh, and don’t forget to share with others when it happens, you never know who you might encourage.

Great expectations from a great big God!

God’s blessings be upon you ~
