This will be “round two” of me writing today. My first completed post disappeared and I was left with absolutely nothing. No trace of it anywhere. Oh my goodness! Talk about discouraging, I’ve done all I know to do to retrieve it but to no avail. So, here I am again. Don’t know if it will come out the same, but here goes:

For a little over a month now, I’ve been adopting a new life style change. That’s a fancy phrase for not going on a diet but changing the way I partake of food. My doctor suggested I not go extreme and set myself up for failure, but to make little changes as I go along. Forget the “D” word!

Little changes over time add up to BIG change if we’re consistent.

And, so I began…because at this stage of life one starts thinking more about what life is left to live. I want to be around for as long as the Lord allows! So, I have made little changes here and there, but mostly I’ve been consciously making the BEST choice possible in every moment. For example, tonight I won’t have a nice, fluffy Ballpark Tailgater bun with my burger, but I will indulge a bit in homemade air-fries French fries. Yes, I could do completely without…but I did leave the skins on so I will get extra fiber and they’re not soaked in grease. Win, win.

A lot of times, a drastic change isn’t what’s necessary. A lot of little changes over a period of time will often yield desired weight loss and other health benefits over the long hall though. The very first step however is a made up mind. I needed to decide I was in lock, stock and barrel in order to see and experience any change. I believe it’s often said, “A made-up mind is half the battle.” Well, now I have both!

I’ve made up my mind. And, it’s a battle to make the best choice in every moment.

I’ve done my best to make the BEST choice when given the opportunity. Yes, celery sticks will definitely deliver the same crunchy satisfaction I get from potato chips — minus the sodium content. Did I mention I have had a Lay’s chip fetish? I’ve got to make the best choice over and over again though.

While eating my breakfast of champions this morning (no, not Frosted Flakes!), I thought about how this relates to our walk with God.

Before we can ever be successful, we’ve got to make up our mind we’re going to give it our all and go for it. From there, we will need to consistently make the best choice in every situation. When we falter, we must be willing to repent and start again, NOT QUIT.

To fail is human, to get back up and regroup is rather divine.

There’s something else I’ve incorporated into my life too. I’ve been more conscious of my step count for each day, I’ve tried to be more dedicated to walking three or four days a week. I have taken the stairs instead of an elevator in some cases too. I know I must get up and move around in order to burn excess and keep my body in motion.

There are also Christian exercises we can do to make us healthier spiritually. Reading the Bible, fasting and praying, attending church regularly, forgiving, serving, loving God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves. That’s just a few I can name quickly. Action.

You see, to be successful in anything, we must make our mind up, be consistent in making the best choice in every moment, and do more of the good stuff than we’ve been doing previously. Does that make sense?

I just hope someone out there will be encouraged to do the next right thing, the best thing. Whenever you come face to face with something that would usually take you under or cause you to quit, repent if necessary and then get back up and keep at it. Consistency brings success. A made-up mind creates boundaries. Action leads us to growth and maturity.

Won’t you join me in being a better version of ourselves? Whether physically or spiritually, or both, we can apply some of the same concepts. Change is all about becoming.

Be blessed~
