If God Be For Us

Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your lifespan? (Matt 6:27)

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

I woke up warly this morning with this question on my mind. It’s been a crazy week in our world, but this one thing I know without question -  God is for us.

It’s comforting to know that no matter what comes into our days, we can depend upon God. He is a constant.

I’m thankful I can testify of that! He’s never failed me. That doesn’t mean life is without its challenges - no, it means that we don’t have to do life alone. We have a Helper. A Provider. A Protector.

This week, we’ve had a tree fall and a flat tire. Unexpected? Yes. Time consuming? Yes. Was God working on our behalf? YES!

You see, we have needed and wanted some trees in our yard removed. Probably about ten or eleven to be honest, but at $150 - $200 per tree, that’s quite more money than we’re ready to dish out at present.

So, I was absolutely alarmed when the tree fell during the storm; I also quickly began to thank God that it had not fallen on our home, vehicles or done any further damage than taking out our power from a downed power pole…and I was so excited that He had saved us $200. Also, they cut it up and made it easier for us to clean up. Yeah, I know it sounds silly, but I thanked Him for it.

The flat tire? It was actually on the rental vehicle we have because our truck is currently being repaired - the results of a careless driver who plowed into the back of my husband while he was stopped at a red light. Another blessing! So, again we didn’t need to dig into our account to buy a new tire or repair since we were driving the rental when the tire was punctured and went flat. Added blessing - we also made it into the driveway of our home before the tire went totally flat and left us stranded. Praise the Lord for that!

I shared all this to simply say, God is my Helper, Provider and Protector - every day. Do I worry and fret? Yes, more often than I should. Do I think the world is against me some days? Absolutely! But…

when I turn my eyes “God-ward” and actually magnify Him instead of the situation at hand, I quickly see more than just the problem. I see the goodness of God.

I see His protective and keeping hand, I see His perfect ways of doing things that are high above my ways, and I see His way of working things for the good in ways of which I never could’ve imagined. He’s such an amazing God!

True, sometimes God doesn’t deliver us from trial and heartbreak, He allows us to go through the hard stuff; but even then, He is there guiding the process and growing us into more. I learned this important concept first hand when our son finished his walk on this earth way too soon for my liking.

Who or what may seem against us today? What issue in your life presently seems unconquerable? Are you and I looking through eyes of faith and trust or through worry? Are we magnifying the problems and making them bigger than our God? If we are, it’s okay, I’m just trying to make space today for us to think from a different angle about the circumstances in our days. It takes time to unlearn the rutted, well-traveled path which has become our “go to” day after day.

Stop what you’re doing now and whisper this verse in prayer to the Lord. If He’s for us, who or what can be against us and cause us to fear and doubt? Then, pause to reflect on anything, even the smallest detail, which might prove to be a blessing in this situation. And glorify God!

My friend, it takes conscientious, purposeful thinking and seeing, but our faith will grow when we begin to change our focus. Join me today on this journey to new ways of thinking and seeing. I didn’t say it would be easy, but it WILL be worth the effort. God rewards those who diligently seek Him, even in ways like these.

We win! God wins!

If God be for us…nothing can be against us and win.
