Trip of a Lifetime

I haven’t been here in a very long time, perhaps too long; but I’m making a comeback. Glad you’re here!
I have good news to bring and that is why I sing…I’m gonna take a trip. Well, that’s the lyrics to the old hymn, but it’s actually a journey I’m on. And there IS good news!
I’m on a healing journey of which I had no idea I’d be embarking at this stage in life. It’s more than a cruise, a road trip, or one you take any other way. This trip is one which is taken a single step at a time, starting right from where I am.
Life happens, we adjust or cope, and time keeps on ticking. Everything we leave behind in a day has some kind of effect on our lives. It could be a simple, kind comment which brings a smile to our face or a look or thought which makes us stop dead in our proverbial tracks. I dare say there is no way to make it through a day without being touched in this way. It’s just part of life.
It’s how we respond that is key and oh, that I would’ve done better with that part of life. Live and learn though, right? Sometimes we have to backtrack and clean up some stuff that gets left behind. And, yes, sometimes there are years worth of layers to uncover.
This journey of healing is exactly what it is called though - healing. It is both hard work and rewarding, but isn’t it that way with most things worth having in life? Once we open ourselves up to the possibilities and mature enough to see from a different perspective, we can begin with one simple step.
I won’t bore you with my details, but I’ve begun a very needed journey and am beginning to find reward and hope in the process of healing. That doesn’t mean I don’t have setbacks and fall flat on my face at times, however, I am finding freedom to be the “me” who God has planned for all along. He has plans and it’s a beautiful journey. A testimony.
Some learn quicker than others and everyone heals at different rates, but nevertheless, it is possible because all things are through Christ Jesus. We just have to open up and allow Him to do the surgery and work that is needed within us, to take away the normal responses
and stigmas associated with the layers of life we’ve allowed to identify us.
A butterfly doesn’t emerge from its cocoon without a struggle and we won’t become all God desires us to be either without allowing Him the freedom to peel back years of layers we’ve not dealt with for one reason or another. It’s indeed a struggle.
The good news is that God is able and willing, He has also made our minds to be capable of relearning and flexible enough to change, and He has challenged us in His word to do exactly what is needed to break every chain and live in freedom.
This journey, the one He’s writing now, is a story that will bring Him the glory and bring about in us all that He desires. He has big plans for all of us, drawn out from the beginning of time, and we can get there with just one step at a time. This is the journey of a lifetime for me - and it can be for you as well. Trust, rest, submit, delight and love Him enough to allow Him to change the “you” that’s been forged by your days.
And those days…they’ve not been in vain. Every obstacle we’ve been through and overcome has been used by God to add to our character. It is true that He works all things together for the good. What was meant for evil, CAN be worked for good.
Want to take a once in a lifetime trip with me? It’s never too late. We can walk together, my friend, and God will take the lead.
Let’s go.
