"Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power
and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:"
Jeremiah 32:17
Webster says "the sky's the limit" is an idiom used to say there are no limits and that anything is possible.
I don’t know about you, but some days I need to know that that anything is possible. No matter how small or big the issues at hand are, I have a God who is incapable of failing. The sky’s not even the limit for Him, because He made it.
Ever seen one of those airplanes “writing” a message in the sky for someone below? When I observe this photo, I find myself almost anticipating a message. The blue sky seems like a perfectly, blank canvas with some areas already being highlighted by the sun’s rays.
Some days we look to the sky and say, “I know that was you, God.” Then there are those days we look up at the same sky and ask, “Where are you, God?”
He’s just as present on both types of days, we just need to fill in the details ourselves using a little bit of trust and faith. While there may not be an airplane spelling the message out for us most days, God’s message to us on this blank, blue canvas says that He is limitless.
EVERY DAY!
I know we prefer the messages spelled out for us:
Everything is going to be alright.
God’s going to come through right on time.
I’ve got you! -God
The perfect job is being prepared for you. Wait!
The miracle is in the making.
The answer is on the way!
If we could just see it spelled out!
We pick on “doubting Thomas” who needed to see for himself, but we’re often ride in the same boat, don’t we? We want to see the answer spelled out or spoken loud and clear…but sometimes we just have rely on God’s character and have faith.
I recall the man in the Bible saying hi saw only a cloud the size of a man’s hand in the sky. That was all! There wasn’t a great big explanation telling what was coming. The cloud simply meant rain was coming. Something was about to happen.
My friend, the sky’s the limit. Anything we need done, our God is powerful enough and well able to perform it. Let’s not require Him to write it out clearly for us, for His ways are higher than ours and often times we wouldn’t even understand if it was spelled out for us. Let’s just look up and know God sees us, is in control, and does all things well. Even His “no’s” are powerfully laced with promise and for our good.
Whatever the day brings your way, look up and know Who is for you. Who is all powerful. Who NOTHING is too hard for. The answer is there…maybe in the form of a tiny, almost invisible cloud, maybe in just a few stray rays of light, but we can guarantee He is listening to every prayer, is aware of every worry, catches every tear and sees right where we are. He’s amazing like that - and it’s safe to say that there are no limits for Him.
Look up today…and know. I’m not an airplane, but I want to encourage you just the same. The sky’s the limit for us, but not for the One who is working on our behalf. Look up! There are no limits to what He can do for and in you.
