My Word: Unfold

It’s been a crazy, busy January and here we are almost at the end of it. How does that happen, folks?!

It’s been a pretty good month, although I’ve felt like I’m continuously in “catch up” mode. Funny thing is, the word I chose for 2026 is unfold. You know, the kind of unfolding a flower does, from a tiny bud into a beautiful display of God’s creativity. It quietly and deliberately unfolds without any fanfare or great highlights. It doesn’t need to be cheered on, encouraged, or otherwise; it simply continues to do the next thing with humbleness and obedience to its Maker.

That’s what I want this year! I want to diligently keep on keeping on, putting one foot in front of the other, realizing that I’m called forth to fulfill God’s desire and plan. I want to wake up every day with purpose and intentionality, knowing God has a specific way for my life to grow each day. I want to be intentional, but not pushy and constantly striving in catch-up mode. I want God to unfold His will in my life with masterful grace,

My prayer is that His countenance shines upon my face, that His thoughts would be heard in my mind, that His words would speak to other’s lives through me, and that His love would be displayed through my actions. I realize it might not look like anything particularly spectacular on any given day, but rather what might seem like a bunch of insignificant, good choices and faithful, right steps forward. However, that will result in the unfolding of His perfect will in my life. This will help me be effective and able to make a difference.

A flower doesn’t unfold quickly; and neither can it be forced to unfold. It does so gracefully, in the process of time. I want to remember this as I go about my days this year: just keep choosing good and let God do the inner work. Whenever I attempt to force it, I make a mess of things. Grace, humility, kindness, deep growth, maturity, patience and perseverance are just a few things grown slowly and purposefully. That kind of stuff cannot be hurried along!

Weeds spring up haphazardly and without substance; but flowers unfold quietly and purposefully with beauty and grace.

I desire my life to unfold into all God has purposed and planned for it each day. I don’t want to handicap my Maker! I want to bring Him pleasure by the way I live, love and serve. I want my life to have substance - to mean something and carry value. I want to unfold into the beauty He sees possible! He does all things well when we leave “it” in His hands.

So, what are you desiring to see for your own life this year? Remember, God has a purpose and plan for each of us. It might not look like fireworks or flashing lights and sirens, but there’s a glorious unfolding just waiting to begin when we commit to submit to His will and be transformed into the vessel He sees we can be.

We can live so far below our privilege that we’ll never see that beautifully blossomed unfolding within, or we can take God at His Word and step into promise we’ve never experienced before. That’s what I desire!

What about you?

Let’s do this together!!!

Be blessed~
